September 11th, 5:30pm (in person event) - What can California learn from Sweden's world class public transit?

Sweden has significantly increased public transit use over the past two decades, with transit making up nearly 20% of all trips in 2019, four times the rate of transit use in the Bay Area. Join us for an in-person event at 375 Beale St. in San Francisco to learn from Swedish transit leaders what California can do to improve our own transit network.

Panelists will include senior executives from Sweden’s largest public transit authorities including: Trafikförvaltningen (Region of Stockholm), Västra Götaland (Region of Västra Götaland), Skånetrafiken (Region of Skåne), Swedish Public Transport Association, K2, Sweden's national center for research and education on public transport.

Watch our Beyond Commuter Rail webinar on Youtube

Caltrain and rail are facing major transitions in the Bay Area and around the US, and seamless transit is critical to the transition. In case you missed it, watch our recent webinar about the future of Caltrain and regional rail in the Bay Area. We talked with public transit experts and advocates to learn about key issues facing commuter rail service, the history of US commuter rail, and how we can adapt these systems to meet our needs in the 21st century.

The conversation was moderated by our own Adina Levin. Much thanks to our panelists Christof Spieler, Sandy Johnston, and Giselle Hale for taking the time to share their illustrious insights with us!

Bay Area transit accessibility initiatives moving forward

Initiatives include a one-seat paratransit pilot program, the creation of “mobility manager” services in each county, and streamlined eligibility and Clipper payment systems. These actions are much needed as people with disabilities bear the brunt of our fragmented, inaccessible, and car-dependent transportation infrastructure.
