Get involved in the fight for public transit!

Right now there are several opportunities to engage to make the regional transit measure as good as possible.

Push Santa Clara and San Mateo County to join the effort!

San Francisco, Alameda, and Contra Costa Counties’ are included by default in the regional measure authorizing legislation.

San Mateo and Santa Clara County leaders have until August 11th to “opt-in”. If they do not, the measure will be smaller and will not have enough funds to keep the multi-county services running. Or, these counties will need to run riskier, single-county measures, or cannibalize other local transportation investments to prevent cuts to regional services. Here is a more detailed timeline for the opt-in decision making process.

Help urge Peninsula and South Bay leaders to opt-in to the regional measure by signing up for public comment at important upcoming meetings.

Push for a Progressive Tax Source

As written SB63 calls for a sales tax that would disproportionately impact working people.

Urge leaders to include an option for revenues to be raised from a gross receipts tax on bug businesses. Not only would this shift the cost burden onto large companies but it is more popular with voters and has the potential to raise more funding

Labor unions and advocates that are part of the Voices for Public Transportation, including Seamless Bay Area, are pushing leaders to add an option for a gross receipts tax on larger businesses to SB63.

Funding Rider-Focused, Transit Transformation Initiatives

Urge County Transportation Commission/Authorities that are negotiating the expenditure plan for the regional measure to protect funding for rider-focused improvements that make public transit fast, reliable, affordable, convenient, and accessible.
