2/26/2026: 20+ upcoming events to save and improve transit

Our communities face painful transit service cuts unless we pass two transit funding ballot measures. And that's why we need your help. Come to a signature gathering event to help get the regional initiative on the November ballot to save transit!

If you take transit in the South Bay, please speak up at the VTA board meeting this Friday urging them to invest $264M in new annual funding to make VTA service more frequent, fast, and reliable.

Additionally, come to the official kick-off event for Stronger Muni for All – the San Francisco transit funding ballot measure – on Tuesday, March 3rd, at 12pm.

In parallel to these efforts, we're still working to build the world-class system that we deserve and have been fighting for. Come to three upcoming events to learn:

  1. How we can plan a connected transit network with faster and more reliable service, and deliver projects quicker and at lower costs.

  2. How to become an effective transit advocate by leveraging our position both on the streets and within the halls of power.

Read on to learn more about all these events and opportunities.

Upcoming signature gathering events to get transit funding on the ballot

Saturday, February 28th

Sunday, March 1st

And events next week

How do we make transit faster and more reliable for riders, even when budgets are tight? How do we make it so projects to improve transit can get done more quickly, and at lower costs? How do we make it so taking transit is competitive with driving? And how do we do that given that the Bay has over 101 cities and counties served by 27 transit agencies?

Tune in to learn from experts about how we can make progress on all these goals at once with a proven approach: "Service-led planning." We'll learn what steps the Bay Area has already taken towards more coordinated service and what is needed to create this fast, convenient, and integrated transit network.

VTA is set to get an additional $264 million in annual, locally-controlled funding if the Connect Bay Area initiative passes. This is a big opportunity to make VTA service more frequent, fast, and reliable for riders. The VTA Board will be discussing the spending plan at the first of two workshops this Friday, 2/27, starting at 9am. Please sign up to be notified when it's time for public comment.

SamTrans will also be considering how to prioritize spending its $50 million in annual, locally-controlled funding from the Connect Bay Area ballot measure. Stay tuned for more information about how to participate.

In particular, SamTrans is considering a project to support bus travel on the Dumbarton Corridor using the current rail right of way. However, their proposal does not yet consider the full opportunities to improve rider experience using the corridor, including a long-planned route connecting to Redwood City, the connection across the Bay to Union City BART, and the potential to run service after the early evening and over the weekend when there is no service.

Help SamTrans reimagine the Dumbarton Corridor taking the online survey available from now through March 6. Consider adding recommendations about improving service in addition to the comments on the capital project being considered.

Stronger Muni for All Kickoff (Mission Dolores Park, San Francisco) | Tuesday, 3/3 @ 12pm

In addition to the regional Connect Bay Area initiative, we also need to pass a local San Francisco parcel tax to fund Muni and prevent service cuts and invest in a safer, more reliable, and more affordable Muni.

And next week this initiative, officially announced as the Stronger Muni for All, is having its kickoff event on Tuesday, March 3 at 12pm at Mission Dolores Park. Please join us and our allies in San Francisco as we kickoff the campaign.

Effective advocacy requires a synchronized approach that combines public pressure with direct negotiation to influence decision makers from every available angle. Bay Area author and transit organizer Carter Lavin explores the essential mechanics of “the inside and outside game” in his new book, demonstrating how these two fronts must work together to turn ambitious transportation ideas into reality. Attendees will learn how to leverage campaign supporters and coalition partners to strengthen their position both on the streets and within the halls of power.
